I'm going to be listing the different shot types and showing examples of some of them.
Close-up
This is when only the head and shoulders of the character are in the shot. It is used to show emotions and reactions. You can also have an extreme close up which is used to show important small details.

Long/wide shot
This is when the majority of the scene is in shot and it usually shows the character from a distance. Usually the surroundings of the character have some significance to the scene.

Two-shot
This is a shot of two characters together usually used in comedy. It is good for showing the interaction between the two characters with no distraction.

Over the shoulder shot
This is a shot from the shoulder of a character. It helps show the positions of the characters in a conversation, it also makes one character look more dominant.

Tilted shot/Canted angle
This is when the camera is at an angle. It is used to show speed, movement or an unsettled mood.

High/low shot
This is when the camera is at a high or low angle, used to make something look bigger or smaller.
